1. This debate WAS created in the "formal" debate community.
2. It was meant to be a debate between myself and JACE
3. I wanted Thousandin1 and MuckaMcCaw to moderate and help move the discussion forward/toward consensus.
4. You just posted here to try to disrupt my effort, and make me seem like an elitist prick. And don't say that's not what you wanted because it's obvious it was. ;)
Closing:
The Bible may be losing relevance, but today it is still relevant. At the very least historically relevant
I'd like to thank Akulakan for getting the formal debate community set up andinviting me to participate in this demonstration debate. Let's pick a topic that is a little harder to debate next time :)
It's relevant in the sense that today it is still seriously influential in modern society. The rest of your argument concerns the quality of it's contents and whether or not we would be better off without it. THAT isn't really what we're debating. You admit that it has "some historical significance" so this is another way it's still relevant.
The Bible is still a relevant piece of literature today.
It is precisely because there are so many christians who (still today) take it as a guide that it is still relevant. Even though many people feel that it has been adequately debunked there are still multitudes who regard it as the inspired word of god. With as many people as there are who take this book seriously, it doesn't make sense to say it's irrelevant.
Since there are still many churches today with pastors who preach to their trusting congregations from the bible, I would say that the bible is still a relevant piece of literature today. I could come up with other reasons that it is still relevant, but I don't think my opponent can successfully refute this single point so I will end here and go address his opening argument.
